Blazers Damage Short article: Damian Lillard Questionable vs. Pacers
The Portland Trail Blazers may be without their leader once again. Damian Lillard is listed as questionable for tonight’s matchup against the Indiana Pacers due to lingering calf soreness, raising concerns about the team's consistency on the road.
Lillard, who has been dealing with the issue for the past week, played through discomfort in the previous game but logged only 32 minutes and appeared visibly limited in the second half. Head coach Chauncey Billups told reporters that the decision will be a game-time call. “We’re going to see how he feels during warmups. We’re not going to risk anything long-term,” Billups said after Friday’s practice.
The Blazers have struggled to close out close games without their star guard. In the four games Lillard has missed this season, Portland is 1–3, with the lone win coming against a shorthanded opponent. His ability to stretch defenses and create off the dribble is irreplaceable in the current rotation.
If Lillard sits, the offensive load will fall on Anfernee Simons and Jerami Grant. Both have shown flashes this season but have been inconsistent when asked to carry the primary scoring responsibility for extended stretches. Rookie Scoot Henderson could also see an expanded role, though his efficiency has been a work in progress.
The Pacers, meanwhile, are riding a three-game winning streak and boast the league's fastest pace. Indiana's backcourt, led by Tyrese Haliburton, has been particularly effective against defenses that are slow to rotate — an area where Portland has been vulnerable all season.
Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 PM ET at Gainbridge Fieldhouse. The Blazers have listed Lillard as questionable, and a final update is expected approximately 90 minutes before game time.
